Trunk Capacity Computation

Packing a trunk according to SAE-J1100
SAE-Trunk In automotive industry, the volume of a trunk is computed according to different standards (DIN 70020, SAE J1100). These standards define the volume of a trunk by the maximum number of boxes that fit into the it. A human packer needs a whole day to finish this task. An experienced packer achieves very good packing within this time. Our algorithms can solve this problem automatically. The reached quality is comparable or better than those made by hand. We use physics simulation and highly efficient geometric algorithms that are designed especially for this issue. Al this is embedded into a graphics tool that helps the user to produce high class packings interactively.
